The AIDC was established as a government support centre to increase the local automotive industry’s global competitiveness and to promote Gauteng as the automotive industry investment destination of choice.
The AIDC prides itself as a world-class organisation which specialises in Skills Development and Training, Enterprise Development, Incubation Programmes, Management of Incentive Programmes, and offers state-of-the-art manufacturing support facilities.
AIDC departments include:
Business development
The AIDC’s Business Development Department (BDD) provides strategic input and support to all Key Focus Departments and Infrastructure Programmes of the organisation, with the aim to enhance, expand, increase and deepen its services offerings to both Government and automotive industry clients. The BDD supports the AIDC with project acquisition and assists each department to source funding for future projects.
Government Incentive Schemes
he AIDC’s Government Incentive Schemes department administers government and automotive industry incentives designed to grow and develop the automotive sector. This department is contracted to the Department of Trade and Industry (dti), to conduct company evaluations and to ensure that they are eligible and comply with the requirements of the Automotive Investment Scheme (AIS) when claiming grants for investing in assets such as buildings, tooling and machinery.
Incubation Programmes
The AIDC pioneered the incubation concept within the local automotive industry, to provide support to Black-owned enterprises and nurture these companies during their start-up phases.
Skills Development & Training
The AIDC established its Skills Development and Training (SD&T) Department to identify sectors with skills deficiencies, and then develop programmes to nurture individuals to drive economic growth across South Africa. The main focus of the AIDC is to become a catalyst for Government to explore solutions to overcome skills shortages in the automotive industry.
Supplier & Enterprise Development
The AIDC’s Supplier and Enterprise Development Department (SEDD) was established to develop component manufacturers in the supply chain to conform to the international standards prescribed by the automotive manufacturing industry. The department’s service offering ranges from a combination of efficiency improvement projects related to productivity, quality assurance in accordance with ISO standards, including environmental, lean and clean production (including all green projects as related to the Government and the Province’s low carbon economy projects), to manufacturing concepts, logistics, clustering and SMME development initiatives.
Guateng Automotive Learning Centre
This qualification is aimed at individuals who have a passion for the automotive industry and want to work effectively in various sub-sectors of the industry as automotive sales persons. The primary skill that is recognized in this qualification is the ability to apply the fundamental competencies of automotive sales with reference to recognizing and responding to prospective clients of the organisation within identified functional areas of sales.
