One of the objectives of the public sector supplier development workshops is to capacitate and equip small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) to allow them access to public sector supply chains. This access will allow SMMEs the opportunity to expand their businesses. The workshops will have a targeted approach depending on the barriers suppliers face in providing an efficient service.
Workshops will focus on:
B-BBEE education - in terms of the benefits that B-BBEE compliance yields and awareness, as well as on implementation of local content and production regulations; and
registration on the Central Supplier Database, which has a direct impact on expanding the supplier database and opening up procurement opportunities for SMMEs.
These sessions will be implemented across the province by the Department of Economic Development and Tourism Enterprise Development Unit in collaboration with municipalities, Provincial Treasury, ARIBA, the South African Revenue Services, the Construction Industry Development Board, provincial and national departments, and other critical stakeholders.
