Programmes:
The challenge created an opportunity for students to design a popup space that connects the Bellville community whilst being a viable business venture.
The Greater Tygerberg Partnership initiated the Pop-Up Bellville Innovation Challenge to re-activate public spaces for recreation and meaningful connection between people in the Bellville Central Business District . Innovate South Africa in partnership with the Centre of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Western Cape was tasked to run the project.
The CEI Mashauri Venture is a customised programme, co-created by Mashauri and the University of the Western Cape to teach and support UWC entrepreneurs in launching and building their own businesses and to increase commercialisation of graduate research.
The Venture Accelerator Programme gives students the opportunity to develop, test and validate their business idea in the market. If the test is positive, they will be ready to take the next steps in building a business model and the first demonstrable product (called a minimum viable product) to customers.
Even if their initial idea proves not to be viable, they will have learned how to get going with starting a new business and have a tool-set and process to help them try out their next idea!
The #YouthStartCT Challenge serves as an accelerator programme for start-up entrepreneurs aged from 18 to 35. The main aim of the competition is to contribute to business skills development, innovation and the growth of entrepreneurs in Cape Town.
About the competition
Come up with the best entrepreneurial ideas for boosting employment in your local community and we will provide training and development opportunities for start-ups. The winners will be given the chance to partner with the City of Cape Town on projects that will uplift job seekers and provide sustainable employment opportunities.
